Lesson 4: Collaborating with students

Opening Collaboration Portal

1. Navigate to the Dashboard and select the class the student is in
2. Select the student you would like to collaborate with
3. Here you will see the key objectives and corresponding judgements relevant to that student
4. Click on the Collaboration Portal symbol for the key objective you would like to collaborate on 

Collaboration Portal Functions

1. Send messages to the student relating to their progress in that key objective
2. Upload attachments
3. Send voice clips
4. Upload documents from your google drive
5. View any assignments linked to the key objective
6. Create and view any resources associated with the key objective
7. Once you have uploaded any documents or typed/recorded any messages, be sure to click the “SUBMIT” button
8. When students reply, you will see the thread of messages on the collaboration portal for that key objective
9. An email will be sent to students when posting messages on the collaboration portal (assuming the student has enabled email notifications via the Account Settings Page)

Key management checklist

• School leaders should decide on the level of interaction/discussion they expect to see between the teacher and the student. For example, it is quite reasonable to expect teachers to provide regular feedback to students who are clearly struggling with a KO.
• The Collaboration Portal has three tabs; ‘Discussion’ tab, ‘Assignment’ tab and ‘Resources’ tab. These three tabs connect together all the learning associated with a particular KO.
• The use of the ‘Voice’ feedback function should be encouraged as it is an effective and time-efficient way of providing feedback when compared to written feedback. This feature is particularly useful for oracy based subjects like MFL as well as for students who find written feedback difficult to access
• DPR provides analytics on how a student is performing on a particular KO. Students can be instructed to complete a number of tasks from the ‘Resources’ tab to further enhance their understanding or to close an identified learning gap for this KO
